Battery Warning anytime after 3,000 rpms

705 Views 9 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Choquette710
Been having an issue when I start to speed up or try to go up hills that I get a charging system warning light and my lights will start to flicker. I changed the battery but no luck. Any possible suggestions?

Get your alt checked at a parts store that does it for free. Before you go see what the ouput should be.

i did have it checked and it passed, not too sure from here
Check the belt for corrosion and check the tightness of the tensioner, the tensioner might be the problem.

Has this problem been repeated many times?

yeah so it’s been a pretty consistent thing lately but the alarm goes away after I turn the car off. I actually took it to a place to get my serpentine belt changed cuz I had a Malibu that lost the belt and the electrical went nuts so figured I’d start there..we Didn’t realize there is a second belt for it that you can’t really see too well and he said that belt is the one that’s looking bad. I have an appointment Tuesday to have it replaced. Wish I had tools and an extra hand but unfortunately the shop is the only option at the moment

For the YARIS iA there two belts one for the water pump the second is for the A/C and the alternator.

The problem seemed to get worse after I changed the belts so im thinking the tensioner is also going out. However I did do a few tests to check my alternator which showed it was bad and so i have an appointment to change that this coming Wednesday. I figured i might as well pay for the alternator now since its more expensive and get a tensioner next pay day.
Conclusion: After a change of belts and getting a new battery and alternator, turns out it was an alternator issue. By the time the car made it to the shop it wouldn’t even go past 2,000 RPM’s without warning signal! I will still keep an eye on the tensioner here and there just to be cautious. Thanks for the help guys!
