What are your thoughts on getting the extended warranty for the iA? I got it through the dealer for $1,585.00 but after further research I am thinking about cancelling it within the 30 day time frame. Any recommendations?

Don't think it is worth it, new car typically doesn't have that much issue. How much is it? You could use that as a reference. I'm adding Geico Mechanical Break down once i hit the 14500 mark. It's about 72.50$ a year. The only reason I'm doing that is because I'm scared of the engine.

Your new car is your baby, so it deserves a little extra protection. MBI is available for new or leased cars that are less than 15 months old and with less than 15,000 miles.

Once you've purchased MBI, you can renew it for up to seven years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first). After a $250 deductible on a covered loss, MBI covers repairs to all mechanical parts of the car (except for maintenance and wear and tear*).

May I ask why you're scared of the engine?

My cousin brought a Nissan altima 2009 and his CVT died so i'm little weary of the transmission and had it replace at 70k.

In our car is a pretty high compression engine, 12:1. There's possibility that something can happen, and skyactiv engine is still relatively new and as the production started in 2012. There hasn't been a long-term determination of engine reliability yet.

Just trying to make a point that new technology can cause issues if it's not well engineered/tested.

Personally, I wouldn't have it. The engine has been around for several years now, at least in Eu. The rest of the car is Mazda... Don't think its worth the sales pitch

One thing I notice people do a lot is to get rid of a new car after 3-4 years of ownership. In doing that you get the best out of the vehicle and don't have to worry about any issues. Might be something for you guys to consider with the iA and forego the extended warranty.

I got a free extended warranty and maintenance package, down here in FL Sun Toyota doubles all factory warranties and the power terrain components for 20 years/200k miles (includes everything but the clutch, that's only covered for 75k). They cover the first 75k maintenance too, but I have to go in every 5k instead of 7.5k to keep their extended warranty. If you're in FL or GA and looking for another Toyota/scion I'd definitely consider the drive. Then again I drive 55k a year so the 350 to get to the dealer was worth it for me more than someone that only does 10k a year.
