Hey guys,

I been trying to get the maps from Mazda 3 NA to work on this Scion iA since I first got it and I finally manage to get it work. Thanks for some risk taking from "c0nstrictor" I finally got the balls to try it myself.

This will be a really quick write up cause I gonna prepare for an Exam but I'll post a detail instruction later if you're interested.

Things you will need to do.
1) Gain ssh/root access via WIFI or USB adapter. (I just used WIFI) and you will need a Stable internet connection
2) You will need to FLASH Mazda Universal operating system on your car (Everything still works so far, I'll report more on this later). Search Mazdacmuhacks on google I used 55.00.753A – Installation File, You will lose your Scion iA boot up btw and gain mazda red theme.
3) You will need to follow "North American Maps: Download with CID" instructions to gain install it. It's on Mazda3revolution site I love to post links but once again the Mod Blocks me everytime. I used a similar method. What essentially happens here is you need to fake your car's CID to match the GPS files.

I'll post a more thorough instruction step by step later if you're interested but from this information you should be able to do it yourself if you're not patient :p.

HD map here working in SoCal - I'm just curious if it uses the traffic information or just displays it.

Detail Instruction (on how I did it)

Disclaimer I carry zero responsibility. Please read the pros and cons and the bottom first.

Preparation:

1) You need the following Tools
a. 8GB + SD Card, Class 10, (I used an Amazon 32GB Class 10)
i. You will need to get file Mazda Map files. It’s free please search the Mazda3revolution forum for files there’s torrent and a link. These files need to be copy to the SD Card
b. USB Flash drive 1GB + This will be used to flash mazda universal firmware over your scion. I’ll discuss the pros of cons of this below. Mazdacmuhacks.com has instruction on how to flash it it’s pretty self explanation copy the files to the USB and follow the instruction posted. I personally used 55.00.753A and not the latest .760A to match my fail safe.
c. USB Flash drive to gain root access. You can use the common tweak on mazdacmuhacks.com to gain wifi ssh access. Or use the all in one tweak on mazda 3 revolution. (you might want back up your jci just in case using all in one tweak.)
2) You will need the following software: (PS: Use windows)
a. Putty – to gain root acces to update/delete root files
b. Fuzilla – To transfer and update files.
c. Modfreakz's tool – to change the CID it’s on the M3Revolution site.
3) a root/ssh connection to your media center. This can be done via Wifi or USB to lan. I personally brought a router next to my car so I can have a safe connection between the car/router/laptop (you don't need internet on the router for this work if you have this done before hand).
4) Have about 2-3 hours to do the steps below (the above steps should had been done before hand).

Steps:
1) You will need to flash the mazda universal firmware over your current one. Use the instruction provided on mazdacmuhacks.com I USED 55.00.753A (this should take up to an hour for to completely flash – be sure to step on the gas pedal/clutch to stand by the car every 10 minutes) (took me 30 minutes)
2) After a successful flash next step will be gaining SSH access to your car. Use either the all in one tweak or common tweak. Essentially just putting all the files on the flash drive and connect to the car’s usb. Wait 1-2 minutes for it to install. Afterwards go to setting menu where Bluetooth and a wifi option should be there. Connect to you wifi or local network.
a. I RECOMMEND CHECKING The SIGNAL STRENGTH IS GOOD BEFORE PROCEEDING.
3) You will need to find the ip address of the car’s cmu, check this on your router Device list the car name should be CMU. You can complete this step by following my instruction or use the instruction provided by the M3Revolution forum.
a. Open up putty type in ip address of your car’s cmu and connect. The username would be “root” and password is “jci” (no quotes.
b. WARNING: NEXT STEP ALLOWS YOU DELETE SYSteM FILES BE VERY CAREFUL WHAT YOU DO.
c. After type in the following “mount -o remount,rw /” or copy paste. This allows you to edit/rename system files.
d. Open fudzilla connect to the same ip address with port 22 and same password/username. You will need to find a file call “jci-linux_imx6_volans-release” It’s located in jci/nng/ folder. So browse for it. When you find it download a copy of it and rename the original (on the system) jci-linux_imx6_volans-release.bak or jci-linux_imx6_volans-release.org just something to know THAT you know was the original. With the file you copy to your computer open up modfreak tools and open the file with the software and patch the CID. This should be included in the torrent and on the Mazda 3 Revolution site. If you’re using the same file as me then it’s “CID: 5D5342202020202001207B847900F500”
e. After you patch copy it back to the original place, you should have that edited and the original already rename to ….bak or ..org.
f. Finally close fudzilla and go back to putty, now we’re going to give the file permission and reboot with the following (Enter one at a time) “chmod +x /jci/nng/jci-linux_imx6_volans-release”
“mount -o remount,ro /”
“reboot”
g. This will reboot the computer and now plug in that SD that with the navigation file and it should work!

Since I can’t edit this post after. All credit is due to mazda3revolution forum, mazdacmuhacks, and everyone else on their who helped develop and gather the files!

I realized when you flash the Mazda firmware you will lose the scion firmware there’s a few pros and cons to it.

Pros:
-you will be using mazda firmware and most likely Mazda will be updating theirs and we’re not sure how Toyota/Scion will be providing updates to the vehicle.
-you will be able to use the Mazda Maps over Here the maps.
-the mazda system seems to work better with all the tweaks provided by mazda3revolution forum. Certain things like the speedometer app needle doesn’t move until I swap over the mazda version.
-gain red theme
-gain mazda boot up screen

Cons
-you will LOSE the ability to using the HERE MAPS or the Scion iA default SD Card maps.
-we don’t have the original. up files to flash it back to the scion original Scion iA firmware. This will need to be obtain later on.
-lose blue theme
-lose scion boot up screen

Hope this helps - I'll try to answer questions but the best resources is the mazda3revolution forum.

After taking a trip recently I can say this navi system is not very intuitive. A few addresses I tried to find it would not find at all. It seems to take 2-3 more steps to find an address than should be necessary. I also tried voice activation which didn't work most of the time. I wish we could get an update for Android auto. It sometimes highlights certain numbers when entering an address & sometimes it won't light up the number I need! For instance, if I need 370 SoandSo Street but it will only light up numbers 1 & 2..so I am not able to enter a 3 because it won't show that number even tho that house has been there 40 years.

Just a update:

Ever since I start using Android Auto, I haven't used the navigation software at all... thank god I didn't pay for it but only time I do is to check the speed limit of the road.

If anybody wants to do this mod but doesn't want to lose their bootup animations or background, I have the original files that you can replace after you have made all of your tweaks to get them back. If you want to get very close to the Scion iA look, you can install the blue theme from the AIO tweaks and use these files and it would look the same as before, but you will have the free maps.

Also, if you just want the tweaks and can live without the maps, I made many of the tweaks on the original iA firmware without ever touching the Mazda firmware. I didn't like the idea of moving to the Mazda firmware without a way back, so this is what I am doing until a firmware gets posted.

Are you saying you flashed these tweeks onto your scion IA, without flashing to the Mazda hardware?

i thought that you had to change the CMU os to the mazda one before you can apply the 'all in one' but apparently you do not have to.
apparently they share the same firmware so you can use the 'all-in-one' without problems. however, the only thing that won't work properly is the speedo in corner.
good luck :)

Are you using Android Auto? Didn't understand your last statement. Do you mean the speedometer does not work at all or just a component of it?
