I have the 6 speed, and at around 620 miles, when backing into my aunts driveway, the car grinded going into reverse. It doesn't always happen, seems to be just when putting it into reverse when the car is facing downhill. Hill start assist seems to only work about half the time it's in reverse now too. It might have done it before and I just didn't think much of it, my accord did it every time I put it in reverse because the synchronizer was shot so I got kinda used to it lol

Ah my buddies accord used to do it all the time too. Miss that actually.. But could be synchro as well ? Maybe when the vehicle is facing downhill, the trans fluid is all to one end and the opposite end isn't getting enough ?

I'll check into the trans fluid thing... I can't imagine a synchro going bad before 1k miles... If that's the case I might do the 30 days money back thing and get the iM or Corolla, I don't want to deal with trans issues again. Can't afford the time to drive to the dealer every week either. I think I live in the only place in Florida that actually has hills, so I really want this issue fixed. Don't want to screw up the transmission from it grinding all the time. If it's not an issue with the trans fluid I guess I'll have to take a day off to go down to the dealer...

For this to be happening so soon is quite ridiculous. Check the trans fluid first, and then I would definitely take it to them before something happens a little further down and they try to claim "driver error caused it".

For this to be happening so quickly is ridiculous. But definitely check the trans fluid thing first and take it back as soon as you can. The last thing you want is for something to go wrong a little more down the line and the dealer claims it as "driver error". We all know how much they hate warranty work, especially if it's something big.

So the car had no trans fluid, they said it looks like it sprung a leak and dripped out from the drain plug. Toyota is going to keep the car for a few days and see why that happened, and if any damage was caused to the transmission. They said that if there is damage to the transmission I can either have them fix/replace the transmission and wait for it to be finished or for a $500 fee I could get another iA or I could trade up to the tC or iM for the difference in list price. For now they've got me in a Avalon and it's nice but it's automatic and I don't like the transmission.

That's quite the offer ... if it arises, do you think you would switch up ??
I think if they say they need to keep the car I'll probably end up telling them to keep it and give me a refund, being that I'm still in the 30 money back time frame. After driving my aunt's truck for the weekend (and now the week? she still hasn't come to trade back... must like the Avalon...) I'm considering a 2015-16 Ram 1500 with a Hemi if I have to get something else, just because they're easier to drive around here, I never realized how much easier it is to see in a truck when driving in traffic with a lot of trucks being that all of my trucks were lowered.

I did look at them, but I won't get one because I don't want the crew cab. I really want the quad cab with a 6'4" box, so I'm leaning towards the Sport trim because they also don't have all the chrome of the higher trims (I'm not that into it, too common) and it'll cost me ~$45k for a brand new one in silver with all the options I want (towing package, 8 speed instead of 6 speed automatic, sunroof, 3.92 rear diff instead of 3.4, leather, etc.) plus it'll make my aunt jealous, she's only got the v6 ??? and my budget is $50k (I'll have to get a loan but it shouldn't be too bad bc ill have the $17k down payment from the ia) so I'll still have a little room for new rims and maybe an upgrade to 4x4

So I got my car back today! They said if I would like a new car due to the transmission issue they will gladly give me my money back, and they're going to double my money back time period. Now I have a month and a half to decide to either keep this or get a truck...

Yeah, this dealership is amazing. My family has been going there for almost 30 years (since they opened) but now they only have Toyota/Scion, they used to have Lexus, Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln too. I think I'm going to keep this unless I have any more problems (which I think I might already.. 3rd feels kinda odd now...) and then come February when my bf's lease is up (he leases BMW's but he keeps going over on mileage so he's done with that) I'll get him to buy a truck so I can drive that ???. I looked into how much extra I'd be paying for gas (even if gas prices stayed the same) and it's just not logical to have a $600/month car payment to use 3 times the gas. I took the car to Daytona and back and it only cost $30 in gas, my aunt followed me in her truck there and back and had to put $90 in her truck... That means I'd be putting $60 a day minimum in a truck... That's just too much...

Uh oh.. 3rd gear now.. that's worrying.

But that gas consumption alone is really intense, that's definitely a huge expense which would totally curve me away from that as well. Huge difference over the iA.

Hmm....

If I have more problems I'll just buy out my bf's lease and he can get something else, I like the BMW and it's not too bad on gas (20-22 around town, 30-35 on the highway, and most of my commute is highway) plus the buyout is only $21k right now, which isn't bad for a 2014 3 series with 39k miles
