Two weeks ago I took a friend car shopping and he ended up getting an Abyss iA. I was so taken with it that I went on a couple test drives later that week and ended up trading my 2011 VW GTI for a sterling silver automatic iA. I love this car. It's such a great car for just normal driving. Nimble and lightweight. Eager and smooth engine. Reminds of the cars I used to drive in my youth. Just enough car, nothing extra. Efficient, frugal, sensible. A joy to drive. The GTI was all wrong for American city driving. Stiff ride. Clunky DSG. Hot in the summer. That car needs an autobahn. Great at high speeds or on a track. Plus it was out of warranty and I didn't want to deal with potential repairs. Got a good trade in and got new car for some change.

Welcome! I had a GLI a while back, which while it was a nice car, It was too much electronics. What I like about the iA, is that it is simple (well as simple as todays Cars can be). Congrats!

Welcome wolfgango! I just picked up my Sterling manual today! Fun, fun, fun, and of course zoom, zoom, zoom! You're right, it reminds me of those times when cars were much simpler; like my '83 VW GTI, maybe like 1,860lbs? It only had 90 hp, a close ratio 5spd manual, and Pirelli tires but that car was fun to toss around.
Years later I bought a 2006 GTI, 207 hp, 6spd manual, but close to 3000lbs I believe? And I could tell. Sure it was fast, 70-90mph very quickly, but you could feel the weight. The car just didn't "toss" like you could do in the much lighter '83 GTI.
Enjoy your ride my friend!

Really enjoying this car! The automatic is really good. In manual mode shifts similar to a DCT. Love that I can drive the car hard and at it's limits all over town. Run it to redline in all the gears up to 80. Engine is smooth and loves to rev. Then back to D and it's a nice small nimble sedan that feels as if it's a bigger car. Quiet, decent ride. Not cramped at all. For spirited acceleration need to keep revs above 4k. Car has great torque and power off the line and above 4k but seems to feel a little flat in the middle range. So great for just normal driving and when you want to ring it out but a little disappointing when you step on it in the middle of the rpm range. And as expected with a light low power car, when passengers are added, performance suffers a lot. Overall really impressed with this rebadged Mazda2. Was just the car I was looking for.
