My motor never shuts off, id disable it if it did haha I dont care enough to save that little bit of gas, I dont want to put that kind of stress on my starter, or motor/transmission
Start-stop?

I bought an automatic iA in Sapphire about a week ago in Sapphire.
Since I bought it, I've been doing further research. I've also been reading up on its cousin the Mazda 2.
From what I've read, the 2 has a start-stop system (Mazda calls it i-Stop). I can't find anything in the manual or Scion's marketing materials about a start-stop system. My iA's engine is pretty quiet, but as far as I can tell, it keeps running when I come to a complete stop. Does anyone have experience with the i-Stop in the 2? Does it stop the engine every time you come to a complete stop? Is this just not in my sweet iA?

According to Mazda's SkyActiv marketing materials, their system puts less stress on the starter than others'.

For start-stop, the engine is started using the direct injection, not the starter.

How can they keep the crank shaft spinning to start the motor? I dont understand direct injection, but i rather have a car that starts once, not every time i stop haha
Stop-start is commonly removed from the American market due to manufacturers saying that Americans "are not used to the technology " and might "think something is wrong with the car when it shuts off". Not kidding. That's the BS that is used as an excuse. I've had several cars that have had stop-start removed (and the iA is one).

I've rented a car with start-stop and it freaked me out when the engine cut out in busy traffic when I was waiting at a light. If you don't know it's there it really lets you panic, but once you're used to it it's ok.

Walking around a busy city running errands i've come across a lot of cars with that tech and its weird to hear vehicles starting, even more is how some people react to it, mostly new car owners.
I think if it wasn't for how good the iA does with MPG's we would have it. But how many more MPG's could we really get from having that tech? a few points?

Hmm, that doesn't sound like a lot. It's definitely the case the smaller displacement petrol engines can be very competitive with hybrids in terms of efficiency. The prius is 1000 lbs heavier according to Google, didn't sound like much, but the gear ratio in them just sucks lol

they should had stop the i-stop in the iA :] imagine the MPG #'s for City
I'm with the others.. I've experienced it once driving the newer TLX and I had a big "trip-out" moment.. It's very off-putting.
my car previous to coming to the US was a 2015 Honda Odyssey in Australia. However, our odysseys are JDM and had the start-stop tech.
Disconcerting for sure until you get used to it (which you do...) and the car will start up automatically once you release the brake.
The biggest issue i had was in crawling traffic or inching forward, every time you came to a stop with brake down, dam thing would cut out even if it was just for a second! And everytime that happened, i'm just thinking of the stress on the starter ~
