Scion fans probably lamented the death of the brand, but Toyota seems to be doing a good job with keeping the carry over models as is.

Road Showtest drove a Yaris iA and found it to be as well-equipped as the Scion iA. With a starting price of $15,950, buyers will be getting a plethora of standard features including 7-inch LCD infotainment system, automated emergency braking, decent materials in the cabin, and a six-speaker audio system.

The infotainment system inherited from Mazda is controlled via a jog dial and buttons and it comes with a Bluetooth hands-free phone system and stereo, AM radio, rear view camera, and pp integration. But navigation will come at an additional cost of around $500 and is doesn’t support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The nav system itself is just an SD card, so maybe there’s a more affordable aftermarket option out there.

A manual gearbox comes standard with an optional $1,100 six speed automatic transmission available. The 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine may not be enough power for some, but maybe some aftermarket performance parts will be available in the future to give that 106 horsepower and 103 pound-feet of torque a boost.

Currently there doesn’t seem to be any superchargers or turbochargers available, at least not model specific options. For now, the fuel sipping rating of 32 mpg city and 40 mpg highway more than makes up for the low horsepower.

Of course it's still going to do well, the fact its under a different badge with little else changed the formula stays the same, simple math. Plus given the time it went on sale momentum for any vehicle following the same time frame will be much like this. The whole question of wondering if its still good and still relevant will be relevant in a few years, if it stands the test of time.

Hopefully The Toyota brand name will generate more interest, demand, and supply of performance parts like CAI's, mufflers, strut tower braces etc. Would be nice if TRD provided these parts/warranty.

I was going to pick one of these up before the Scion badge was defunct, but had to settle for one with the Toyota iA badge. Nice little ride, I must say.
